For some, the fear of allergy season is looming in the near future and for many, the discomfort has already begun. The good news is you can take control of your allergies and reclaim your love for the outdoors! Here are some of my favourite natural allergy remedies:

  • Quercetin: this powerful antioxidant stops the release of histamine, a chemical that causes the symptoms of allergies, such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.
  • Nettle tea: this mild-tasting herbal tea contains helpful anti-histamine effects and stops symptoms of allergies.
  • Neti Pot: rinsing your nasal and sinus passages one to two times daily can help rid allergens from your respiratory system and decrease the allergic burden on your body.
  • Relaxation: Stressors such as work, family, or relationship stress, pollution, lack of sleep, poor diet, food allergies, alcohol, and tobacco can cause a disruption of your immune system. For some, this can result in your immune system over-reacting to otherwise harmless substances such as pollens, dust mites, and molds. Eliminate as many stressors as you can and increase activities that bring your rest and relaxation.

Naturopathic treatment of allergies takes time to calm an overactive immune system. Speak to your naturopathic doctor a few weeks prior to the start of your typical allergy season and you will be breathing easier in no time!
